Why do I need to sign a HIPAA Form when I click “LOWER MY BILL”?

Modified on Fri, 14 Nov at 1:38 PM

When you click LOWER MY BILL, you are requesting help from a HealthLock auditor to investigate your claim or medical bill. To do this, your auditor may need to speak with your healthcare providers, insurance company, or other organizations that hold your Personal Health Information (PHI).

Most of these organizations are considered “Covered Entities” under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and they are legally required to have your signed authorization before they can release your medical or billing information to anyone—even to someone working on your behalf.

Because of this legal requirement, signing the HIPAA Authorization Form is the first step that allows your auditor to begin reviewing your Case, identifying errors, and resolving billing issues on your behalf.
