Why do I have to sign a HIPAA release form?

Modified on Wed, 15 May at 4:42 PM

Our auditors provide services to individuals in helping assure that medical bills are accurate. As part of our work, we receive Personal Health Information (known as “PHI”) from healthcare providers, insurers or other entities, many of whom are “Covered Entities” under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”). Most Providers require the patient/member to sign a HIPAA authorization before giving access to the patient's medical information.

Signing the HIPAA is the first step for your auditor to begin investigating the claim.
